Loverboy rocks Tulsa with high-octane return to Hard Rock Live Sept. 5
For more than four decades, the legendary rock band Loverboy has been electrifying audiences with their high-energy performances and chart-topping hits. Formed in 1979 when vocalist Mike Reno and guitarist Paul Dean joined forces in Calgary, the band quickly made a name for itself in Canada before exploding onto the international scene.
Loverboy’s self-titled debut album became a runaway success after being released by Columbia Records Canada. It eventually sold over four million copies globally, kicking off a career defined by anthems like “Working for the Weekend,” “Turn Me Loose,” “Lovin’ Every Minute of It” and “Queen of the Broken Hearts.
Loverboy soon became a staple of MTV’s early days and shared the stage with icons like Journey, Def Leppard and ZZ Top. With more than 10 million albums sold and a string of multi-platinum records to their name, the band’s influence continues to resonate across generations.
The group’s accolades include a record-breaking six Juno Awards in 1982 and the honor of being the first Canadian act to receive Columbia Records’ Crystal Globe Award for selling over five million albums outside of Canada. In 2009, they were inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, joining the ranks of musical legends such as Neil Young and Bryan Adams.
Today, Loverboy is still going strong with original members Mike Reno, Paul Dean, Doug Johnson and Matt Frenette, joined by longtime bassist Ken “Spider” Sinnaeve. Their live performances remain a centerpiece of their legacy, drawing fans young and old to relive the timeless spirit of '80s rock.
From Super Bowl commercials to nostalgic TV cameos, Loverboy's music continues to leave its mark on pop culture. But it’s their enduring power on stage that sets them apart.
